Post Conference Tours: Friday 6 and Saturday 7 September 2019

The Conference Committee is delighted to advise the following tours are available to conference delegates on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 September 2019. Please make the most of your time in beautiful Queensland and explore some of the sights the state has to offer. All tour costs are GST inclusive and in Australian dollars.

Pre-registration is required for all tours and can be completed via the main registration site – you do not need to book separately via the tour websites listed below. Delegates who have already registered for the conference will be notified with a registration link shortly.

Each tour has a limited capacity and attendance will be allocated in booking order. When a tour is fully booked, a wait list facility will be available. Please see further details about each tour below.


Behind the Scenes Tour at Queensland Museum – Exclusive opportunity!
Cost:
$35AUD per person
Time/Date: Friday 6 September 2019, 4.00-5.00pm

Delve into the mysterious unseen world of the Museum’s collection stores with expert tour guides. Explore the Biodiversity collection, and see specimens spanning the entire animal kingdom: from tiny single-cell protozoans to blue whales; from specimens collected last week to others collected 150 years ago; and from living species to those that are now extinct. The tour also visits the Anthropology stores where our team of expert staff undertake research into Queensland’s cultural heritage.

Brisbane Aboriginal Cultural Tour – All About Aboriginal Art Walking Tour
Cost: $99AUD per person
Time/Date: Saturday 7 September 2019, 10.00am-1.00pm
Tour includes:
A guided walking tour through Brisbane and a bush tucker tasting plate

Connect with the oldest living culture in world history as we take you on an interactive guided tour through local galleries, exhibitions and public art installations throughout Brisbane’s Cultural Precinct. Visiting the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA), Kuril Dhagun (State Library of Queensland), Queensland Art Gallery (QAG), Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC) plus various street and public art sites.

Departure: 10.00am, from the Gallery of Modern Art, 7 Stanley Street (approximate 8 minute walk from the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre)
Return: 1.00pm (approximately), to the State Library of Queensland
Minimum numbers required for tour to run: 5 participants (should minimum numbers not be met, delegates will be notified and the tour cost refunded in full)
Maximum numbers: 20 participants

  • Comfortable attire according to weather on the day, including comfortable walking shoes
  • Camera

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary visit and Brisbane River Cruise Package
Cost: $72AUD per person

Tour includes:
Return sight-seeing cruise along the Brisbane River and entry to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Cruise with Mirimar Cruises, departing from the Cultural Centre Pontoon (located next to the State Library of Brisbane, an 8min walk from BCEC), leaving the city behind on a relaxing cruise to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Enjoy an informative commentary as you glide along Brisbane’s waterfront, from the bustle of the city’s skyscrapers to leafy suburbs with waterside mansions

Package tickets include entry to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, where you will have 3 hours to explore, hand feed kangaroos and emus, experience an authentic Australian sheep dog in action, spy on a shy platypus swimming, see the amazing birds of prey and even have photos taken holding a koala (subject to availability through Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary).

Segway Tour
Cost: $62AUD per person
Time/Date: Saturday 7 September 2019, 10.00am-11.15am 
Tour cost includes: 1.5 hour segway tour (15 minutes of Segway tutorial followed by 1¼ hours of segway touring)

There will be two segway tours available, departing at 10am and 2pm respectively. Please ensure you request a booking for the correct tour.

This segway tour of Brisbane will take you over 14+km through Brisbane, with breathtaking views and non-stop segway fun. Segways are very easy to learn how to ride, you don’t have to balance, the segway balances you. After 15 minutes + of fun training on how to safely operate the segway, you’ll explore Brisbane with a friendly tour guide.

Please note, transport to and from the tour departure point is not included in the tour cost.

Tour 1 Departure: 10.00am, from 52 Bank Street, West End, (approximate 10 minute walk from the Brisbane
Convention and Exhibition Centre)
Tour 1 Return: 11.30am (approximately), to 52 Bank Street, West End

The 2.00pm-3.30pm version of this tour is no longer available. Tickets are still available for the 10.00am-11.30am tour.
